Camshaft Timing Sprocket (Engine Valve Train) ⚙️

This sprocket is a key timing drive part that links the timing chain/belt movement to the camshaft. You need it to keep valve opening and closing perfectly synchronized with the crankshaft. Correct timing means smooth idle, strong pull, and clean combustion.

How it works ?

The teeth on the sprocket mesh with the timing chain/belt and rotate the camshaft at the correct speed. The sprocket’s alignment marks help set cam timing during engine assembly. When the cam turns precisely, the valves breathe at the right moment for power and fuel economy.

What happens if it’s worn or broken ?

Rounded teeth, wobble, or cracking can let the chain skip a tooth. Symptoms include rattling noise, misfire, poor acceleration, hard starting, and a check engine light. In severe cases, timing loss can cause valve-to-piston contact on interference engines, leading to major cylinder head damage.
