The PTO system needs a reliable electrical signal to engage and disengage correctly. The relay works like a strong electric gate: a small control current from the cab switch activates the relay, then the relay sends power to the PTO solenoid or control circuit. When the driver turns on the PTO switch, the relay coil becomes energized. Inside the relay, contact points close and allow battery voltage to pass through the circuit. When the switch is turned off, the contacts open and stop current flow. This simple action gives safe, fast, and controlled PTO operation.

If this relay fails, the PTO may not engage, may cut in and out, or may stay active when it should stop. You may also notice clicking noises, no hydraulic movement, warning lights, or blown fuses. A damaged relay can cause downtime, wiring stress, and unsafe operation of truck-mounted equipment.
