This safety module is designed to protect the driver during a crash by deploying an air cushion from the steering wheel. It is needed because the steering wheel area is the closest hard surface to the driver, and impact forces rise fast in a frontal collision.
How It Works ⚙️
The unit contains a folded airbag and an inflator. When the SRS control unit detects a severe impact, it sends an electric signal to the igniter. The inflator produces gas in milliseconds, the bag opens through the steering cover seam, and it cushions the driver to reduce head and chest injury.
