Informations

Steering Rack End Assembly for Toyota SUVs

Why this part is needed

This inner joint links the rack-and-pinion to the outer tie rod, keeping front wheels aligned and steering precise. On heavy Toyota 4x4s, it carries big loads; replacing a worn unit restores tight steering, reduces tire wear, and improves safety.

How it works ⚙️

Inside is a ball-and-socket with a preloaded seat and a threaded shaft. As the rack moves left/right, this joint transfers motion smoothly to the tie rod, holding the set toe angle. A boot keeps grease in and grit out. Correct torque and staking/locking maintain joint preload.

What happens if it’s bad ⚠️

Symptoms include play in the wheel, clunks over bumps, wandering, pull under throttle/brake, shimmy, and uneven inner/outer tire wear. Severe wear can cause sudden toe change and loss of control. Replace in pairs when needed, renew boot clamps, then perform a wheel alignment.
