Rear Wheel Hub Grease Seal ?️

This rear hub grease seal is a small but critical barrier that keeps lubricant inside the wheel hub while blocking water, mud, and road dust from entering. It’s needed to protect the rear wheel bearings, keep the hub running cool, and maintain smooth rotation under load.

How It Works ⚙️

The seal sits at the hub opening and rides against the axle/hub surface. Its flexible sealing lip holds grease in place as the hub turns, while the outer edge locks tightly in the hub bore. This keeps the bearing grease clean and prevents leakage that can contaminate brake parts.

What Happens If It Fails ?

When the seal hardens, tears, or pops out, grease escapes and dirt gets in. Bearings can overheat, grow noisy, and develop play. In severe cases you may get vibration, uneven braking from grease on shoes/pads, and possible bearing collapse that can damage the hub and axle.

Signs You Should Replace It ✅

  • Grease streaks near the rear hub or backing plate
  • Grinding/humming that changes with speed
  • Rear wheel wobble or excessive bearing play
