Rear Drum Brake Shoe Retaining Pin

This small but essential fastener keeps the drum brake shoe fixed to the backing plate. It works with a spring and cap to hold the shoe steady, so the friction lining meets the drum square and the handbrake applies evenly. Using an OE-spec pin gives quiet braking, even wear, and a firm pedal feel. It’s a direct-fit hardware piece for classic Nissan drum setups, ideal when refreshing brake shoes or doing a full rear brake service.

How it works

The pin passes from behind the backing plate through the shoe web. A hold-down spring and retainer cap lock onto the pin with a quarter turn. This clamp keeps the shoe centered yet allows small axial movement as the wheel cylinder expands. Heat-treated steel and anti-corrosion finish resist stress, heat, and road salt.

What happens if it’s damaged ⚠️

If bent, missing, or rusted, the shoe can tilt or float. Symptoms include scraping noises, brake pull, vibration, longer stopping distance, uneven lining wear, weak parking brake, and risk of drum scoring or wheel cylinder seal damage. Always replace in axle pairs and inspect return springs, adjuster, and caps.
