Front Hub Grease Seal — Purpose and Benefits ️

This front hub grease seal keeps wheel bearing grease in and road dust, water, and salt out. It protects the hub, bearings, and spindle so the wheel turns smooth and quiet. Built from heat‑resistant elastomer with a spring‑loaded lip, it handles brake heat and heavy loads on working vans and pickups. OE-grade fit means consistent clamping in the hub bore and long sealing life for Nissan front hubs.

How it works

Pressed into the hub, the metal shell locks in the bore. The inner lip rides on the spindle, and a garter spring maintains contact. As the wheel rotates, the lip wipes a thin grease film, sealing in lubricant and blocking contaminants—classic wheel bearing seal function.

What happens if it’s damaged ⚠️

When the lip hardens, tears, or the bore loosens, grease leakage starts and water can enter. You may see wet brakes or rims, hear bearing growl, feel play, or smell hot grease. Ignore it and the bearing overheats, pits the races, scores the spindle, and in extreme cases can seize the wheel.

Pro service tips

Replace the seal at every bearing service. Clean the hub bore, inspect the spindle surface, and drive the seal square with a proper tool. Lightly oil the lip, pack bearings with high‑temp NLGI 2 grease, and set preload to spec.
