    3rd Speed Gear for Toyota Manual Gearbox ⚙️

    Why you need it ️

    This gear carries the work in the mid-range. It links takeoff torque to cruising speed, giving smooth acceleration, lower engine revs, better fuel economy, and quieter drive. A fresh, correctly profiled third keeps shifts clean and protects the rest of the transmission.

    How it works

    The helical teeth mesh with the countergear while the splined hub and synchronizer ring match shaft speeds. When you select third, the sleeve locks the dog teeth to the gear, transferring torque to the output shaft. Proper hardening, tooth geometry, and runout control prevent noise and wear.

    What if it’s worn or broken

    Expect grinding on 2–3 or 3–4, popping out of gear, whining under load, shudder, and metal flakes in the oil. Power loss and heat follow, quickly damaging synchros, bearings, and even the case. Driving on chipped teeth can shear the gear and strand the vehicle .

    Tech notes

    Forged steel, OEM-style tooth profile, precise fit. Inspect synchro hub and baulk ring; replace as a set if glazed. Check backlash and endplay, torque to spec, refill with quality GL-4 oil, clean magnets, and perform a gentle road test.
