How it works
A bonded steel‑to‑rubber (elastomer) design takes load in compression and shear. The rubber core absorbs engine pulses and road shocks, while the brackets and captive studs lock the unit to the subframe and engine bracket. Proper durometer rubber filters NVH, keeps angles of the transmission and driveshafts correct, and prevents metal‑to‑metal contact.
Why replace it
Over time, heat, oil, and torque cycles crack the rubber, causing sag or separation. A worn mount leads to strong vibration at idle, clunks on gear changes, steering wheel shake, and harshness on acceleration. Left unchecked, it can misalign the drivetrain, stress the exhaust and hoses, damage other mounts, and create shifter or fan contact issues.
Install tips
Support the engine with a jack and wood block, swap one mount at a time, loosely start all fasteners, then torque to factory spec at ride height. Inspect side and front mounts together for balanced support.
