How it works ⚙️
Each half-shell seats in the block and cap, forming a round journal. Pressurized oil builds a hydrodynamic film so the crank rides on oil, not metal. The standard size fits crankpins that measure within factory limits—no grinding needed when journals are in spec.
If worn or damaged ❗
Symptoms include low-end knock, glitter in oil, hot-idle pressure warning, and harsher vibration. Ignoring it can spin a bearing, seize the crank, bend rods, and scrap the block. Replace early to protect the short block and keep repair costs down.
Tech notes
Clean saddles, match caps, align tangs, and lube on install. Torque mains in sequence and verify clearance with plastigage (typ. 0.0015–0.0025 in). Check thrust endplay, prime the oiling system, and change oil/filter after break-in.
