Engine Rear Oil Seal Retainer 🛠️
This component supports and locks the rear crankshaft oil seal in the correct position at the back of the engine. It is needed to keep engine oil inside the crankcase and to maintain stable sealing where the crankshaft exits toward the gearbox.
How It Works ⚙️
The retainer mounts to the rear of the engine block and provides a precise round housing for the oil seal. By holding the seal square and centered, it lets the crankshaft rotate smoothly while the seal lip controls oil flow. It also helps prevent seal distortion during installation and reduces the chance of leaks under load and heat.
When It Fails 🚨
If the retainer is cracked, warped, or loose, the seal can sit crooked and start leaking. Common results are oil dripping between engine and transmission, clutch contamination on manual setups, burning oil smell, and low oil level over time. Ignoring it may lead to bearing wear, overheating, or costly engine damage.
