This friction plate links the engine to the gearbox, letting you start smoothly, shift cleanly, and protect the drivetrain. It absorbs shock through damper springs, reduces vibration at idle, and delivers consistent torque to the wheels. How it works

Mounted between flywheel and pressure plate, its friction lining grips both sides when you release the pedal, transmitting engine power to the input shaft through a splined hub. Torsion springs in the hub cushion engagement, preventing chatter and safeguarding gears and synchros. When you press the pedal, the plate frees up and allows shifting.

What happens if it’s broken or worn ⚠️

Expect slipping under load, higher revs with poor acceleration, burnt smell, shudder on take-off, and noisy shifts. Severe wear exposes rivets, scoring the flywheel and pressure plate, overheating the cover, and contaminating the release system. Neglect can damage the gearbox input splines and raise repair costs.
