Why you need it

Idle speed changes with temperature, A/C, steering load, and alternator draw. The ECU uses this valve to balance airflow so idle stays stable. Without it, the throttle blade alone cannot fine‑tune idle.

How it works

An internal stepper/solenoid opens a bypass passage. The ECU increments the pintle to increase or reduce air. The result is precise RPM control during cold start, decel, and in-gear idle.

When it fails

Tech notes

Inspect for vacuum leaks and clean the throttle bore. Relearn idle after install if required. Use a new gasket to prevent unmetered air.
