Why you need it
Without accurate vacuum control, the freewheel clutch cannot lock/unlock the front axle. This part ensures reliable 4WD selection on road and off road, protects CV joints, and keeps the 4WD indicator honest.
How it works
An internal coil opens/closes ports to switch vacuum between engage and release sides of the axle actuator. Sealed valves and a calibrated orifice maintain the correct vacuum level, guided by the 4WD control logic.
If it fails ❗
You may see a blinking 4WD light, no 4WD engagement, stuck in 4WD, harsh or delayed shifts, hissing from vacuum lines, increased fuel use, or premature front driveline wear. Replace the solenoid and check hoses for cracks to restore proper operation.
