Why this part is needed ️
Engines must hold a precise heat range. When coolant heats up, the fan must kick in. This switch tells the fan relay or ECU to power the fan, stopping overheating during traffic, towing, or off-road use.
How it works
Inside is a calibrated thermal element (bimetal/NTC). At a set temp, it closes the circuit and the fan runs; as coolant cools, it opens. Simple, reliable, and fast. Many models place it on the radiator tank or housing for accurate readings.
What happens if it breaks ⚠️
Stuck open: fan won’t start, overheating, boiling coolant, weak A/C at idle, possible head damage. Stuck closed: fan runs nonstop, battery strain, slow warm-up, higher fuel use. Intermittent: random fan surge, flickering load, temp swings.
Tech tips ️
Replace with a new sealing washer, torque correctly, avoid excess sealant, and bleed air from the cooling system. Inspect connector for corrosion, and verify fan relay/fuse operation. After install, confirm fan cut-in temperature with a scan tool or IR thermometer.
