How it works ⚙️

The ECU sends a 12V signal to an internal coil. The coil moves a precision spool, routing pressurized oil to advance or retard the camshaft. Sealed passages and an O-ring keep pressure stable. Clean oil is critical: the finer the oil, the faster and cleaner the response.

When it fails ❗

• Check Engine Light, VVT codes (timing over/under advanced)
• Rough idle, low power, flat spots
• Poor fuel economy, hard start when hot
• Rattle on start-up, dirty oil at the sensor

Ignore it and risk

Stuck timing stresses the cam phaser, stretches the chain, and can foul the catalyst from misfires. Prolonged oil starvation may score cam journals and raise repair costs.

Install tips ️

Disconnect battery, unplug connector, remove the retaining bolt, twist and pull the old unit. Lightly oil the new O-ring, seat fully, torque to spec, reconnect. Clear codes, warm up, and test drive. Use the correct oil grade and keep intervals short for dusty routes.
