Flex Flywheel Assembly (Engine-to-Transmission Connector) ⚙️

This flex-type flywheel is a key link between the engine crankshaft and the automatic transmission. It is needed to transfer engine torque smoothly, keep rotation balanced, and help the starter motor spin the engine during starting. Unlike a solid flywheel, the flex design allows a small amount of controlled movement, protecting the drivetrain from shock loads and vibration.

How It Works ?

Bolted to the crankshaft, the plate turns with the engine. Its ring gear provides teeth for the starter to engage. The center mounting area connects to the torque converter, letting power flow into the transmission while absorbing slight misalignment and pulses from combustion for smoother shifting.

If It’s Worn or Broken ?

A damaged unit can cause harsh vibration, rattling/knocking near the bellhousing, hard starting (stripped ring gear teeth),and poor transmission engagement. In severe cases it may crack, leading to loss of drive, converter damage, or starter failure—repairs get expensive fast.
