Engine Thrust Bearing Metal Set
This precision metal set controls crankshaft end play inside the engine. It is needed to keep the crank centered when you press the clutch, change gears, or when the torque converter pushes forward/backward. If end play is not controlled, the crank can βwalkβ and damage the block and rotating parts βοΈ.
How It Works
Fitted at the main bearing location, these thrust faces create a smooth, oil-lubricated sliding surface. Engine oil forms a thin film that prevents metal-to-metal contact while the crankshaft moves slightly in and out under load. Correct clearance keeps timing, oil seal alignment, and clutch/auto transmission thrust loads stable.
When Replacement Is Needed
Replace during overhaul, after oil starvation, or if crank end play measures out of spec. Common signs include clutch pedal pulsation, unstable idle with accessory load, crank pulley wobble, or premature rear main seal leaks .
What Happens If Itβs Worn or Broken
Excessive wear can cause knocking at idle, clutch engagement issues, chewed main bearing surfaces, damaged crankshaft thrust face, and severe cases may lead to low oil pressure and engine failure. Catching it early saves the crank and the block.
