Crankshaft Position Sensor

This sensor is a key input for the engine computer. It tells the ECU the exact crankshaft speed and position so ignition timing and fuel injection happen at the right moment βš™οΈ. Without a clean signal, the engine cannot β€œsync” correctly, especially during starting and acceleration.

Why this part is needed

Modern Mazda/Ford-based systems rely on precise crank data to control spark, injector pulse, misfire detection, and sometimes automatic transmission behavior. A stable reading improves cold starts, smooth idle, and fuel economy.

How it works

The sensor reads teeth on a trigger wheel at the crank. As the wheel passes, it generates a pulse signal. The ECU counts these pulses to calculate RPM and uses reference gaps to identify cylinder position .

What happens if it fails

A weak or dead sensor can cause no-start, sudden stalling when hot, rough running, hesitation, misfire codes, or a flashing/check engine light . In severe cases the ECU cuts spark/injection for protection, leaving you stranded.
