Precision ABS Control Module (Brake Control Unit)
This electronic control unit is the “brain” of the ABS system. It is needed to keep braking stable on wet roads, gravel, or during emergency stops 🚗💨. The module reads wheel speed sensor signals and commands the hydraulic modulator to quickly reduce and re-apply brake pressure, preventing wheel lock.
How It Works
During hard braking, the unit compares wheel speeds many times per second. If a wheel starts to lock, it sends control pulses to the ABS valves/pump to balance pressure. This helps maintain steering control and shortens stopping distance in many real-world conditions.
Signs the Unit Is Failing
- ABS warning light stays on ⚠️
- No ABS activation on slippery surfaces
- Erratic ABS operation or pedal pulsing at low speed
- Diagnostic fault codes related to ABS communication
What Happens If It’s Broken
If the control unit fails, the vehicle may revert to normal braking only (no ABS). In some cases, traction/stability functions can be disabled too. That increases the risk of skidding and loss of steering control under panic braking, especially in rain or snow.
