This sensor is a key part of the exhaust and engine management system. It is needed to measure oxygen level in the exhaust gases, so the ECU can correct the air-fuel mixture in real time. With the right mixture, your engine runs smoother, uses less fuel, and keeps emissions within limits.
How It Works ⚙️
The sensing element reacts to oxygen difference between exhaust gas and outside air. It sends a voltage signal to the ECU. The ECU then adjusts injector pulse and fuel trim to keep combustion efficient, protecting the catalytic converter and improving throttle response.
What Happens If It Fails ❌
A weak or dead sensor can cause rich or lean running. You may notice poor acceleration, higher fuel consumption, rough idle, exhaust smell, and a check engine light. Long-term driving with wrong readings can overheat and damage the catalytic converter, increasing repair cost.
