Steering Angle Sensor – Precise Steering Feedback for Safe Driving ?

This steering angle sensor is a key input device for modern Toyota steering and stability systems. It is needed to tell the vehicle exactly how far and how fast the steering wheel is being turned, so the ECU can react correctly in real time. Without this signal, safety features may not “understand” driver intent.

How It Works ⚙️

The unit sits in the steering column area and measures steering wheel rotation through an internal electronic encoder. It sends a clean angle and direction signal to systems like EPS, ABS, traction control, and VSC. When you turn into a corner, the control modules compare steering angle with wheel speed and yaw data to keep the car stable and predictable.

Why Replacing a Faulty One Matters ✅

If the sensor is worn, contaminated, or has internal circuit failure, the data becomes incorrect or drops out. Common results are warning lights, unstable assist, or reduced stability control performance. In some cases the car may enter limp/safety mode, and steering feel can become inconsistent—especially during low-speed parking maneuvers or sudden lane changes.

When Broken, You May Notice ?

  • VSC/ABS/EPS warning lamps
  • Traction control not working properly
  • Steering assist feels erratic or heavy
  • Calibration errors after alignment or battery disconnect
