Steering Angle Sensor for Toyota Steering System

This steering angle sensor is a key input device for modern Toyota steering, ABS, VSC/ESP, and traction systems. It tells the control unit exactly where the steering wheel is pointed and how fast it is being turned. That information helps the car stay stable in corners, correct skids, and support advanced features like brake-based stability control.

Why this sensor is needed ✅

Today’s vehicles don’t rely only on mechanical steering. The stability computer needs a precise steering “reference” to compare driver intention with real vehicle movement (yaw rate and wheel speeds). Without an accurate signal, safety systems can’t react correctly.

How it works ⚙️

The sensor sits in the steering column area and uses an internal encoder to convert steering rotation into an electronic signal. The ECU continuously reads this signal, then calculates steering angle, direction, and rate of change to control stability interventions and steering-related calibrations.

What happens if it fails

When the sensor is broken or out of calibration, warning lights may appear (ABS/VSC/TRC), stability control can be reduced, and the vehicle may feel less predictable on slippery roads. Some cars may store fault codes and require calibration after replacement.
