Exhaust Differential Pressure Sensor (DPF / EGR Monitoring)

This sensor is a key feedback part for modern Hyundai & Kia diesel exhaust systems. It measures the pressure difference between two points in the exhaust (usually before and after the DPF). The ECU uses this signal to calculate soot load and decide when to start regeneration. Without correct readings, the engine cannot manage emissions properly and fuel economy can suffer.

How It Works βš™οΈ

The unit connects to the exhaust via two small pressure hoses. Inside, a precise diaphragm and electronics convert pressure drop into a voltage signal. Higher restriction in the filter = higher differential pressure, so the ECU can protect the turbo, control EGR flow, and keep the DPF clean.

If the Sensor Fails ❗

A faulty sensor or cracked hoses can trigger warning lights, limp mode, and frequent/failed regenerations. In bad cases the DPF may clog, exhaust backpressure rises, turbo stress increases, and the vehicle may smoke more or lose power. Replacing it in time helps avoid expensive DPF and turbo repairs.
