This OEM-grade range switch tells the transmission computer exactly when 4th/overdrive is engaged. It stabilizes shift timing, enables torque-converter lock-up, and keeps highway cruising smooth and efficient ?. Built to handle hot ATF and vibration, it restores factory shift quality and protects the gearbox.
Why you need it ?
When the 4th gear signal is weak or missing, the TCM guesses. That leads to flare or harsh upshifts, no overdrive, hunting at light throttle, higher RPM on the highway, excess heat, and premature clutch wear. Replacing the switch brings back clean, predictable shifts and better fuel economy β½.
How it works
Mounted on the case/valve body, hydraulic pressure in 4th presses a plunger and closes the internal contacts. The switch sends a clean on/off voltage to the TCM, confirming gear state so the module commands lock-up and adapts line pressure precisely.
What happens if it breaks ?
Common symptoms: Check Engine with P07xx codes, delayed or banging 4β5, no lock-up, limp mode, erratic cruise, and darkened ATF from heat.
