This small one-way valve is a quiet hero in your engineβs lubrication system. It is needed to keep oil from draining back when the engine is switched off, so oil pressure builds fast on the next start. That means less dry running, less wear, and a smoother morning start-up.
How It Works βοΈ
Inside the valve is a simple spring-and-seat design. When the oil pump pushes oil forward, the valve opens and lets oil flow in the correct direction. When pressure drops after shutdown, it closes instantly, sealing the passage and holding oil in the galleries and filter line.
What Happens If Itβs Broken β
A weak or stuck valve can let oil drain back. Common results are delayed oil pressure, ticking lifters, brief chain/tensioner noise, and accelerated bearing wear. In severe cases, repeated dry starts can shorten engine life and trigger low-pressure warnings.
