This small but critical filter protects the VTEC oil control circuit by trapping sludge and metal dust before they reach the spool valve and rocker oil gallery. Clean, steady oil pressure means crisp cam changeover, smooth idle, and reliable top‑end power.
Why you need it
With age, sealant crumbs, varnish, and wear particles clog the screen. Replacing the VTEC spool valve filter restores oil flow, stabilizes variable valve timing, prevents solenoid sticking, and keeps the engine responsive.
How it works
A fine stainless mesh in a rigid frame sits upstream of the VTEC solenoid. When the ECU commands VTEC, oil passes through this screen to the spool and lifters, building pressure fast. The mesh traps debris while the body seals to the head via a gasket/O‑ring, keeping the circuit leak‑free.
